Shining Pototan

One of the mark of the Season of Christmas are the lights that are abundantly hanged almost everywhere, however with the high Patay Electric Company charges (14 pesos/KwH-one of the highest in the country) here in Iloilo people are not really very enthusiastic in lighting lights in their houses. Unlike outside the city, where electric cooperatives are the one selling electricity at a lower price you could see people take time and effort to really decorate their houses with shimmering lights.

Last December 22, we visited the municipality of Pototan. Labelled as the Christmas capital of the Visayas, it boasts of the well decorated plaza with fairs, rides and other goodies. They even have a "Kubota Tractor" train the cruises around the plaza at 10 pesos per least you get to get a brochure.

There are a lot of stalls that sell gift items and garments at a lower price compared to the one here in the city. They also have my all-time favorite "puto bungbong" cooked straight from the bamboo tube.

Together with Tita Debbie, Tito Alex, Karen,
Happy, Magic and Ali and friends we took time to go around the municipality of Pototan...

Yuletide Blessings

Yule or the Winter Solstice is one of the eight Sabbats celebrated by Pagans around the world. It tells us the story of the birth of the sun god and the return of Light in the world. Yule means the wheel in reference to the Wheel of the Year. It is also the longest night of the year and the point where the days begin to lengthen again.

This celebration is sacred to all the infant Sun or Son gods like Belanus, Baldur, Apollo, Shamash, Horus and Mithras. It is a sacred celebration dedicated to the Horned God as the Winter King. In the Pagan literature, it is the god-king who is the gift of the Great Goddess to the world, one that will bring light to all.

Pagans and Witches in the Philippines may celebrate this by doing a ritual to welcome the sun god. Though there is no snow in the country, a Solstice is a Solstice and it can be felt and observe by all. The celebration of the Sabbat can also be done even though there are no holly or mistletoe here in the country, the more important thing is we celebrate it with a festive spirit.

The Art of Defying Destiny

A lot of people said that life has so many things that cannot be defied. Things that are written in the stars, in the shape of your face or the lines in your hand. However in my opinion there is no such thing as luck, we make things happen either by sheer determination, hardwork or even Divine Intervention. Many events happen in our lives and many of them are undesirable. When something bad happen we blame it on Fate, if something good came up we credit ourself for it. Why can't we be responsible individuals who will credit everything that happened to our own doing. Whether we unconsciously or consciously made it is us, its always us!

The very nature of a human being to choose, is affecting the course of this so-called destiny. Some of the choices though are said to be planned out, a face up card, but again choices are there to direct us to which path to tread.

The choice is yours and yours alone. In the movie "Evita" , Madonna sang Lament-"
The choice was mine, and mine completely. I could have any prize that I desired, I could burn with the splendor of the brightest fire...Or else, or else I could choose time

I'm Sick and Tired...

I don't like the feeling of being sick, the way your nose is clogged by stuff and your throat becomes painful that even swallowing would feel like hell. You might advice me to rest and relax a little, drink calamansi juice and sleep, but for me a breadwinner in the family, luxury like that seems to be elusive. A lot of people may say that we need to take care of our bodies and rest that's right but then resting is just a luxury (again) that I cannot afford.

Being sick like this makes me think about a lot of stuff, like what would happen if my health would fail me and I end up checking in a Hospital, the money that I would spend, the injections and dextrose that I would endure... thinking about it makes me shiver.

So I really must rest for the sake of myself and my family. Resting and working at the same time would be a drag, don't you think?

Ill trace a rune of healing to myself later and ask the Lady to expunge this bug that resides inside me. Eko, Eko, Hekate!

Seraphs Sing

Yuletide Season comeths, some people say that this is the time to be jolly and happy however right now the world is really suffering from the financial crisis. Though life is hard and our streets are bare with any Christmas decors, this is not a reason to be frustrated or sad. Yule still comes even with or without money. I was invited by my friend Todd to attend a free concert given by their group called the Seraphims. It is made up of singers of different ages and they displayed their angelic voices in SM City today December 8, the day of Immaculate Conception. They delivered their own rendition of English and Filipino Christmas Carols both modern and classics. Again to Todd and his members, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Crazy, Crazy Crepes...

I was very intrigued by this Crazy Crepes. Where they sell fruits, ice cream, tuna wrapped in crepe. Some say this is very delicious, however I felt that its really not worth spending 70-100 pesos on a little piece of food. I bought Tuna Wasabe Crepe this afternoon for 90 bucks and I felt that it didn't even reach my tummy.

I think that Crazy Crepe is just all about the name and buying or lining up on the Crepe's stall is more of a status symbol. It is not very wise or logical to buy this product. To others who have a lot of money, this is very okay to buy it, but for others who's not really that well-off tasting it once or twice is heaven...just let it stay in your mouth for a long time. Yummy....or just Crazy!!!

Of Pacquiao and Dela Hoya

I never really liked Manny Pacquiao... his consistent face on TV makes me wonder if this person is really a sports hero or a trying hard celebrity. I have seen trailers of his movies and his kissing with Ara Mina makes me squirm. However, as much as I do not want Pacman, I was amazed when I watched his fight earlier today with Oscar dela Hoya where he literally shattered his face into surrendering.

I hate Pacman, not because I dont like him however I feel that he is just so stupid to let these shady politicians get the best out of him. Use him in anyway they ca
n well I cannot do anything about it so I just pray that Pacman will be smart enough to know his boundaries and limits.

This is a again a very good day to Filipinos, where we have shown the world again that we can do this stuff, to take down stronger and bigger opponents. I'm sad though that our country's problem against corruption is a knockout in favor to the latter.

A lot of people say that Pacman is a hero, they (the politicians) would ride on to his popularity and would use him in their campaigns and other endorsements. These athletes receive words of appreciation from these "crocs". Again all they receive are words and no real assistance really trickle down to the members of our national team... and th
ey are wondering why the hell we do not win of the gold medals in the Olympic that our players coveted for so long.

I just pray that the inclusion of the Sports Department's
budget in the next year's budget would really reach the athletes.

CONGRATS AGAIN PACMAN.... We (well a lot of Filipinos) are really PROUD of you!!!

I have known the Artist Babak Niaraki for quite some time. The memory that I have with him is during our Sine Ilonggo days, where he was one of the guys who attended the Film Workshop. Babak is a good friend always ready to greet you when you meet each other on the street. He had some crazy ideas about his films, his art and his passion.

Last Wednesday, December 3, 2008 I was busy munching my lunch near the academy where I am working when I saw Bob with his friend. He informed me that he has an exhibit in Crave, a new Steak house opened in Smallville. I was wondering what kind of artsy stuff is Bob gonna show again and he told me that it was a Photo Exhibit and a Nude one at that.

Fast Forward, Thursday Night... I received a text from Marz, "ang akong Iloi" asking me to attend the exhibit. I told him I already received an invitation from the Artist himself and I wondered what the hell is this all about. I am a supporter of the talented Artists of Iloilo in my own way and I really do not know what to expect in the upcoming showcase of art.

Cum Friday, I went fast in my class shoving 13 pages of Anthropology lessons (Times New Roman, Font 11) to my poor students brains. By around 6 pm I was done and since it was Heaven's schedule to mourn for our dying economy, it rained that night.

I hitched a ride with Miss Christia to Crave and I arrived there a little
early. All the artworks are still covered in black cloth. I saw a lot of people in the artists' circle, Gino and Netty his girlfriend/wife, Bob and his wife, Kitz (where I gave him a wedding congratulation almost 2 years late), Bob's mom, Rio and Lester (the Dynamic Duo), Sir Jigger Latoza of Invictus, Kathy Villalon and Ramon of TNT, Raymund and Tara Yap of Guardian, Yannie (our batchmate in Sine I) whois now a fine arts teach of San Ag, Kevin Piamonte who is one of the models for the exhibit, Sam Prudente of Sine I, Oscar Nava of Crave, Anya, our on and off member of OIC, and some friends that I do not remember the names but I certainly remember the faces. Marz was there ofcourse and he told me that he was also one of the members of the "nudist" being immortalized in canvas.

We waited for some guests to arrive and while I did that I was busy on munching on the delish meals served. There was chili con carne, a lasagniaish dish with mushroom which was very good, roasted chicken and alium cepa rings, and beef thingy with rosemary on top... all very healthy and mouthwatering... I had my fair share and my tummy was grumbling with satisfaction.

When the time to unveil the works arrived. I was also excited as the crowd and the artworks artwork were revealed before my eyes. It was one of a kind, the use of black and white was very good that it gave the artwork a "classic" feel. And of course, right before my eyes I saw Marz in all his naked and revealing glory... (note to self: chant a supplication to the God of Dreams Somnius for a good night sleep...hehehehehe).

To end the day, I had a wonderful time talking to some people I just met. I hope I created friends out of this chance encounter and maybe more.... Not Black/ Not White will be exhibited in Crave from December 5-December 21st, 2008... Come and Visit the exhibit to see one of a kind visual treat- a mixture of White and Black, symmetric contortions and a dash of Artistic (Owww...) Nudity on top.

Of Handsome Vamps

I watched Twilight the movie with Celeste last saturday, it was a blast. I read the story a few months before and the sotry was very good. Though not your regular vamps in the folklore and other fictional materials, Stephenie Meyer's are shinier characters. They still have the basic abilities, invulnerability to extreme temperature, strength, speed, ethereal beauty and grace and immortality.

I am always facinated with the Vampire Lore and I could claim to have a Masters Degree in Vampiric studies if needed be. However, I observed that these vampiric information vary from location to location as well as author to author. Vampires generally are afraid of the sun since this is one of the bane of their existence, they combust under the direct heat of the sun. Different however are the Meyer vampires. While others burst to flame when hit by the sun, Edward and the others merely "shine".

Garlic, Stakes and Crosses are also vampire banes, as seen in the more classical and traditional vampire movies like Bram Stroker's Dracula, Bad Boys and even in the series Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In the Anne Rice world however the only true vampire killer would be the sun and fire, though in some instance these also fails in the face of a very old Vampire like the Children of the Millenia.

Vampires they say are extrememly attractive and they draw you into them. Every movement they make seems like a dance, every word they speak sounds like a lullaby to unsuspecting mortals. In some literature, vampires do not appear in mirrors but some do, some turns to mist or wolf but some do not. Technically, the vampire lore and characteristics vary and changes depending on the writer's discretion.

Institution de Magika Arcana

Teaching the Craft is a passion that I really want to pursue. I had a lot of students in the Craft before however they are very lazy in studying if not not very interested at all. Right now I have opened a new batch of students for the IMA. It will have four quarters in a year of education. The quarters are then divided into lessons. Right now, the lessons that we have for the first month will be Herbology 101, Potions 101 and Charms 101. The classes will be every Tuesday and Thursday of every week at a disclosed location.

The lessons will include a very detailed study of the parts of the Craft... anyone willing to join please contact me:, +639185266774, +639225269603.

A Bus Stop Career

A lot of us are easily satisfied with our jobs. Some with enough money or compensation would stay in their jobs for a decade or two. Not to exaggerate though, some may stay in their jobs for more than five years to ten years. One of my problems in employment is I really cannot stay in one job. I tend to jump from one job to the other especially when I tend to disagree with my boss or I simply get bored. I am yearning to be in a job that would capture my interest. I would be a teacher and I think I would stay in that job but right now I am in a parking lot in my bus stop career...

Lets Sit, Lets Talk...One Moment

One of the more pressing problem of our generation is miscommunication which exists just everywhere. One knows that this ailment as I call it happens almost everyday and everywhere. It causes alot of problems from the simple love hate status of a relationship, domestic squabblings, racism and war.

I too have my own share of this epidemic. I have experienced and encountered ohh so many form of miscommunication. It causes me my family, some friends (even bestfriends), a fair share of lovers and some co-workers, bosses and even simple people in the street. Certain quarrels caused by this plague may evolve into something worst like hate and bashing, even to binding and killing.

Now what to do with this sickness since there ailments have cures, right?? Miscommunication can be treated with a tablet of talking. Talking to people you have offended earlier may save the relationships you invested so much in building. Clear out issues and try to solve them would be the best way to counter this disease. Now, if everyone wishes to speak at the same time, you could use the "talking stick" approach in which the person who has the stick is the only one allowed to speak for the moment. This could really save the day...

So what are you waiting for, clear out the issues before they escalate into something you cannot reverse.... grab a cup of coffee and lets sit and talk a while.

Of Fitness and Laziness

It has been more than a month that I never even bothered going back to the gym. That's why I feel I am growing huge again in my midsection. Being in the gym is really wonderful, aside from having a place where i could get rid of stress, it would give a very nice side-effect- becoming fit. I am planning to go back to Star Slimmers, though I think not within this month though since I still have some things that I am so busy with. I don't worry that much though, Ill give myself just a month and I will be back to my old self....

The Night of Samhain was very mystical as the first glimpse of the Cresent appeared in the sky....Diana's Brow. However, this night of magick became also a night of frustration since the planned event was a disaster. I tried to invite people and expected members of the Paranormal Society of Iloilo will show themselves in the party. Some have logical excuses, others unexcusable at all.

Though the party is literally dead, and I also spent and covered 1200 pesos for the food, the only consolation that I got was the presence of the gods. The party is not swell, and the ritual that took place was not really that grand, however I could feel the tingle of the Divine's presence in the simple circle that we created. I even presided as the Mystae of the Rite.

I hope this thing will not happen and with this I was thinking about dissolving PSI for the reason that no one is even giving their time for the group (though some do). Drastic measures will be done to those people who promised but didn't deliver. Let the punishment equal the retribution!

The Great Samhain

The Hallowmas, a time of the year most sacred to Witches. This is the last and the final harvest of the crops and the storing of the food for the coming winter. It is said that during this night the Veil that divides the world is at its thinnest allowing spirits of our departed to walk amongst us again. In the old world it is also believed that there are Pathways open during this night as the Shining Ones or the Sidhe roams the land this night. The way to the spirit realms would also be open allowing some mortals to wander blindly into the world of the Spirit.

Samhain is also celebrated by the lighting of the candles to commemorate the passing of our loveones to the next life. To fulfill the cycle of death and rebirth as well as the journey to the realm of the dead. It is said that during this sacred night the departed loveones would come visit us in our homes that's why we need to prepare a feast for them to eat. In the Philippines,, the remembrance of the dead happens November 1 where the kakanins are very popular and prepared by the old ladies in the family. The visit to the cemetary is also practiced as this is the time that we could visit our departed family members.

The High Sabbat of Samhain is the New Year for Witches and this time is when we prepare and bless all the candles that will be used for the next year. Candles prepared this night are said to be more potent when used in rituals and spells. A Night of Magick, it is also the best time to connect with the power of the earth and give in to the wisdom of the spirits.

Blessed Samhain, everyone!
