Coffee and Poetry

In the city of Iloilo, it is very difficult to look for a place where artists and the likes could actually bond, sit and show their Crafts. Artists and interest groups would actually pay for a place to conduct a meeting, or share their ideas and interests. However, this changed last March 31st, 2008.

Marcel Milliam, the entrepreneur who started it all opened the first and only Arts Kafe in Iloilo. Kafe Binalaybay officially opened last March 31, the birthday of the owner. Located in Lopez Jaena St. Jaro, Iloilo City infront of the old Florete Ricemill going to Central Philippine University (CPU). This Kafe caters to all artists as it has specific days for a specific art form. It has Poetry Night, where poets could actually read and post their poetry. There is also Acoustic Night where Project Juan, composed of some of the Kafe's Staff plays amazing music in the place.

During Fridays, the Paranormal Society of Iloilo conducts Esoteric Nights, a weekly affair where the group conducts lectures on the Paranormal and Metaphysics. There are also card and palm readers should you want to have your fortunes be told. Saturdays are Tribal Nights where friends from the Maharlikang Bahandi plays ethnic and tribal beats.

One of the highlight activities of the Kafe happens during the Fullmoon where the Paranormal Society of Iloilo hosts UGSAD: The Fullmoon Festival, where again topics about esoteric are discussed.

The Kafe is open Mondays to Saturdays from 10AM-2AM, where everyone could enjoy coffee, pika-pikas, and their famous Buffalo Wings. The customers could choose to sit down in the Bamboo chairs or on the straw mats in the Lumpiga Area. Students could take their notes and books and study in the Kafe's Study Area while listening to the variety of music played in the Performance Area.

The Kafe can also be the venue of seminars, launchings, workshops or any meetings. There are some groups who views the Kafe as their second home. Dagyang Pulong, a Writer's Group meets here every Wednesday while the Paranormal Society of Iloilo meets in the Kafe, Saturdays.
